How you can achieve what you want most in life
What if somebody said you could have your heartfelt desire. You would think they were mad. This isn't such a strange suggestion. According to Wayne Dwyer 'Our intention creates our reality'. This setting of an intention or heartfelt desire is known as Sankalpa. So what is Sankalpa?
Sankalpa
The word kalpa means a wish, desire or intention and sankalpa is a the setting of a resolution for a heartfelt desire or intention by a person. 'Your Sankalpa becomes a statement you can call upon to remind you of your true nature and guide your choices' (Kelly McGonigal).
Our heartfelt desire is always with us. Its just waiting to be heard or felt. Sometimes we need to take time to relax, meditate and refocus to allow us to listen to our inner voice. Then we will hear it.
Our intentions are messages we send to the universe to say 'this is where I'd like to go' while we allow the universe to help direct us there. The act of setting intentions implies a belief that what we desire is possible. It strengthens our connection to the universe, the source of all things - @Chopracenter
By speaking our desire out loud we are putting it our there in the universe believing that the universe is listening to us.
However Rod Stryker (The 4 desires, 2011) believes there is a bit more than just 'putting it into the universe'. There's always a catch!
He says there are 3 stages to the listening process:
Sravana is the willingness to hear the message of the heartfelt desire
Manana is the act of turning to and welcoming the messenger
Nididhyasana is the willingness to do what the heartfelt desire requires you to do.
This isn't a passive process you have to be willing to change, believe that you are following the right path and put actions into place to help you achieve your heartfelt desire. You need to be prepared to overcome self defeatist, negative thoughts, use your strength and self belief throughout this process. Courage may be required to put those steps on place to make the change happen.
During yoga nidra practice when you state your sankalpa it should be spoken to yourself in the present tense. Then this thought and energy, planted as a seed for nurturing within your heart space. Sankalpa is placed at the beginning and end of Yoga nidra practice for you to set your intention at the start and then confirm the intention at the end of the nidra practice. Each time you practice yoga nidra you reinforce your intention and heartfelt desire. Your sankalpa doesn't have to last a lifetime it can change.
To achieve your heartfelt desire or sankalpa isn't just about saying something and hoping for the best. I would recommend 'The 4 Desires' by Rod Stryker as a starting point. Follow the stages outlined in the book to achieve your heartfelt desire. I found this book fascinating as I had already made changes in my life to be where i am now. It resonated with me and I could clearly see how this process worked.
Open your heart and listen to your true self. Think about situations in life when things have gone so smoothly, as if they were just meant to be. Maybe this was you following YOUR path.
